Project Background

The healthcare industry is increasingly embracing digital transformation to improve operational efficiency, patient care, and resource management. In line with this trend, a one-stop day care medical centre under a leading hospital group in Hong Kong sought to transition into a fully integrated Smart Hospital. Opened in December 2020 in Kowloon, Hong Kong, this modern one-stop day care medical centre spans 10,000sqm. Specializing in same-day endoscopy, imaging, health screening, and specialist outpatient services, it supports the parent hospital’s 860 beds with efficient, high-quality ambulatory care for the community. The goal of the project was to develop a centralized intelligent platform that would enhance patient experience, optimize resource allocation, and provide real-time monitoring of hospital operations.

Given the hospital’s existing infrastructure, the challenge was to seamlessly integrate new smart solutions while ensuring minimal disruption to daily medical services. The project aimed to introduce automation, AI-driven insights, and data analysis to support decision-making and improve overall hospital management.

Project Overview

The Smart Hospital Platform was designed as a comprehensive digital ecosystem, incorporating multiple modules to streamline hospital operations. The implementation followed a structured approach:

  1. Design & Blueprint Phase:
  • Initial planning involved stakeholder consultations, requirements mapping, and system architecture definition.
  • The blueprint was reviewed and approved before proceeding to the execution phase.

2. Execution & Development Phase:

  • Integration with existing hospital systems (e.g., equipment monitoring, energy management).
  • Deployment of core platform functionalities.
  • Development of custom dashboards for real-time data visualization with 3D digital twin.

3. Testing & Optimization Phase:

  • Live testing with hospital staff to validate system performance.
  • AI-driven recommendations implemented for Chiller optimization and predictive maintenance.

Currently, the project is in the second phase with ongoing data collection, digital dashboard updates, and performance monitoring.

Scope of Service

The initial scope included the Core Smart Hospital Platform, designed with:

  • Smart operation management, including asset management, space and maintenance management
  • Integrated data analytics and AI-driven insights
  • Digital Twin for real-time analysis
  • Real-time monitoring of patient flow, chiller plant efficiency, and equipment status
  • Automated alerts for maintenance and energy optimization
  • ESG module for carbon footprint management
  • Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) IoT monitoring

Outcome and Future Roadmap:

Beyond the core platform, the hospital expressed interest in supplementary hardware upgrades, leading to our proposal to include AI-enhanced CCTV security systems and IoT-enabled smart washrooms. These additions were not initially part of the contract but were proposed after identifying their value in improving hospital safety and hygiene management. Additionally, we provided ongoing consultancy, helping the hospital explore future expansions such as AI-based diagnostics and predictive maintenance, reinforcing our role as a long-term innovation partner in their digital transformation journey.
